Legislation Program

The experiences of our members belong in the rooms where laws are made.

The Legislation Program takes what Colonial PVA members live every day and brings it directly to elected officials. Members meet with senators and congresspeople, attend legislative events, and ask lawmakers to support the policies that affect veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders. This is not ceremonial. Members come with specific asks and real stories, and they make them count.

Each year, Colonial PVA members travel to Washington, DC for the PVA Advocacy and Legislation Seminar, where they engage directly with lawmakers from Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey. In the most recent year, members met with 22 legislators.

How the Legislation Program Works

Annual DC Seminar

Each year, Colonial PVA members attend the PVA Advocacy and Legislation Seminar in Washington, DC, meeting directly with lawmakers on the policies that shape veterans' lives. Healthcare access, disability rights, and benefits protections are among the priorities members bring to those meetings.

Elected Official Engagement

Colonial PVA invites senators and congresspeople to chapter events, giving lawmakers direct exposure to members' experiences and accessibility barriers. Members use those opportunities to ask officials to support specific legislation.

Local and State Advocacy

Legislative advocacy doesn't only happen in Washington. Members advocate at the local and state level as well, building relationships with officials across Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey.
