Mentoring Program

The people who understand this journey best are the ones already living it.

For a newly injured veteran, the hardest part is often not the injury itself — it's not knowing what comes next, or whether anything like a full life is still possible. Mentoring at Colonial PVA starts with the belief that the most valuable guidance comes from someone who has already found their way through. We pair members with trained volunteer mentors who share their disorder, their background, or their goals.

Life doesn't stop because of your disability. It's just different.

How the Mentorship Program Works

Your mentor is someone who has lived your diagnosis and knows firsthand what's possible.

Who We Match You With
We pair each member with a trained volunteer mentor who shares their disorder, their background, or their goals. When the right match isn't within our chapter, we reach out to PVA chapters across the country. The connection matters more than the geography.
What the Relationship Looks Like
Mentors and mentees connect at least once a week — by phone, by text, in person when possible. Some relationships stay focused on navigating the practical challenges of disability. Others grow into something that looks a lot more like friendship. Both are the point.
Who It Benefits
Mentoring goes both ways. The member being supported gains guidance, perspective, and someone in their corner. The mentor rediscovers their own resilience by showing someone else the way through. They both needed each other — that's how it always turns out.
